Victory Over Sin

This evening Michael Torgersen continues his study in Colossians 2:11-23, considering what God says in this passage about the believer's victory over sin. He begins with a review of the believer's position in Christ and a sampling of some of the truths that involves, focusing in on two positional truths expressed in this evening's passage: the circumcision made without hands and our baptism into the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On this basis he looks at the commands in verses 16, 18, and 20 to "let no one judge you" in food, drink, or holy days, remembering that these are but shadows while Christ is the substance and to "let no one cheat you" in false humility, false doctrines, and pride; rather, we are to hold fast to the Head, Jesus Christ, abiding in Him by confessing our sins to God, walking in the Spirit, obeying God's Word, and yielding to the will of God, which all will lead to the believer's spiritual growth and victory over sin.
