Vision Overload [8-007]
To challenge players peripheral and depth of vision and then overload the player with external information Canterbury International High Performance Unit (IHPU) Manager, John Haggart, takes you inside with the Crusaders to demonstrate how to improve peripheral vision. This drill can be taught to players of high school age and up. Level: High School & Above Categories: Vision & Awareness Coaching Points: 00:0:39.000 - Ensure the player has his head firmly fixed and he is looking at the player 20m away 00:0:44.000 - Player should be leaning slightly forward and on his toes 00:0:51.000 - Player must keep his chest square and use his eyes to scan to see where the other players are while at the same time looking ahead and beyond to the player standing 20m away 00:0:55.000 - Player needs to remain at right angles to his support players 00:0:59.000 - Player should catch the ball on his finger tips and give a strong and accurate pass Instructions: #1. Set up with 4 players and a coach as shown. #2. Place 4 cones in a square approximately 3-4m apart. #3. Place a player approximately 20m away with 3x different coloured cones. #4. The player in the middle(red bib) is the one who is being worked. #5. The player in the bib must look directly ahead at the player standing directly in front approximately 20m away. #6. The other two players then move up and down the outside of the square. #7. As they do this they must pass a ball to the player in the bib who in turn passes to the other player moving down the outside of the square The aim is for the player in the bib to remain at right angles to these players at all times whilst looking directl #8.
