Visiting Alaska's Eagle Summit circa 1937
Scenes show a family visit to Eagle Summit, along the Steese Highway about 100 miles northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska, circa 1937. The Steese Highway, which runs about 175 miles from Fairbanks to the Yukon River town of Circle, had been completed only about 10 years earlier. According to Wikipedia, Eagle Summit is a 3,652-foot (1,113 m) gap through the White Mountains, and was named by area prospectors after the nearby Eagle River.
