Visual Hacking Resistance - Innovative Graphical Password Authentication for Enhanced Security

The increasing frequency of password breaches and credential-based attacks has exposed the limitations of traditional alphanumeric authentication systems. Despite the adoption of two-factor authentication mechanisms, many implementations remain vulnerable to advanced attack vectors such as phishing, brute force, and credential replay. Graphical password systems offer improved memorability and usability; however, existing approaches are often limited to single-modality verification and lack robustness against multi-vector attacks. This project introduces the Tri-Layer Graphical and Biometric Authentication Protocol (TL-GBAP), developed as a full-stack web application using Python and the Django framework in accordance with IEEE academic standards. The framework integrates multiple authentication layers, including colour-based selection, preference-driven image recognition, and pixel-coordinate graphical password verification. TL-GBAP enhances security by storing pixel-based coordinates with tolerance thresholds, allowing flexible yet secure user authentication. The multi-layer approach reduces the risk of compromise by requiring sequential validation across independent modalities. This design mitigates vulnerabilities associated with single-factor and traditional multi-factor authentication systems. The system includes user registration, secure credential storage, and authentication verification modules, supported by administrative dashboards for monitoring and system management. Designed strictly for academic and research purposes, this project demonstrates applied authentication engineering, graphical security mechanisms, and full-stack web deployment for advanced multi-layered access control systems.
