VULFPECK - Dean Town
Vulfpeck – “Dean Town” represents so much of what made me fall in love with the idea of building music independently and doing everything DIY. I was always the guy in the band that designed the Flyers that was pumped off about getting stuff out there f****** gigs getting merch all that stuff that was me I was that guy in the band. Watching these guys record together in basements, living rooms, and homemade studio setups reminded me of exactly who I was at that age — just friends making music because they had to. No giant industry machine. No fake image. Just groove, chemistry, musicianship, and creativity. That spirit inspired me heavily. The title itself is also a nod to Jaco Pastorius’ legendary composition “Teen Town,” which makes perfect sense once you hear what Joe Dart is doing on bass here. The bass isn’t sitting underneath the groove — it is the groove, or is it? Does it feel like a melodious , funky baseline establishing a Groove ? Or is it joe Dart effortlessly show you his inspirations and just how badass he is. Everything about this track feels locked in, playful, obsessive, and alive.
