Wall Tie Failure: Part 1 – Finding the Problem
An old wall tie (or brick tie) was made from steel and prone to rust. Wall tie failure is when a wall tie rusts and expands. This forces the brickwork to move so that the mortar no longer adheres to the brick. This results in the wall becoming unstable. In this video, John also explains: 🔵 How the wall of a house is usually constructed; 🔵 What happens when the mortar between the bricks starts to disintegrate; 🔵 How to spot wall tie failure; 🔵 How to prevent wall tie failure using a cavity wall tie; 🔵 The process of rebuilding a wall that has suffered wall tie failure; and 🔵 How Helifix Crack Stitching can stabilise cracked masonry.
