Welcome to the Next Project... a vintage Warmoth Strat "barn find" kit! We will be hatching plan, then forgetting the plan, as we start work on the vintage 15 year old Warmoth kit guitar. 00:00 - intro - cut to the chase 00:04 - weekend 1 sanding 00:56 - base color dye 02:00 - weekend 2 is that the color 03:45 - solarez UV sealer 04:34 - weeked 4 sanding 05:56 - 1st round poly seal 07:00 - so much sanding so little time 08:10 - 2nd round poly seal 09:20 - weekend 4 sanding 10:15 - shielding & tape 11:12 - base color finally 12:09 - dry time & clear 12:37 - weekend 5 final color work 13:21 - try, fail, learn 14:01 - contrast color 14:34 - more sanding 15:39 - blue metallic edge 16:27 - a little candy 16:58 - see clearly 18:34 - oops grumble grumble This is a long and drawn out part of the overall project. I won't say everything went perfectly, not even close. Color dye, sealing, adding color and clear are all a hurry-up-and-wait processes. There was a lot of time waiting for - paint to dry. I did get a few other things done while waiting, installed a bathroom exhaust fan, repaired a break switch on a car, made a reindeer template, purged some clutter from the toolbox... A lot of time - waiting. For me, the most exciting part of this step was trying the Crystal Effect process. Again, it didn't go perfectly, nor as I envisioned, but the end result looks great. I'll be doing more experimenting and already have another guitar in mind to receive this paint process. I realized that part of this type of work is "try, fail, learn", maybe that's the takeaway from this episode. Do as much research as you can, but don't expect perfect results. Hands on experience will offer different education than a article or video. Take a deep breathe, fix what goes wrong, begin again. Enjoy the challenge and hopefully learn from it.
