The player races against 7 opponents against the clock to win first place. There are three stages to be chosen from, each stage corresponds to a level of difficulty (novice, expert and professional), and there are four characters to select.
The player also has to be careful of the waves, which can hinder the player depending on the direction, but if taken correctly (Like using them as jumping ramps) they can help the player get jump bonus points which add precious seconds to the time.
