Webinar - EyeLink Data Viewer Integration Messaging Protocol
EyeLink Data Viewer is used for viewing, filtering, and processing gaze data recorded with EyeLink eye trackers. By utilizing its messaging protocol, experiments programmed in environments such as Psychtoolbox for Matlab, E-Prime, PsychoPy, NBS Presentation, Open Sesame, C / C++, C#, Python, and more, can result in EyeLink Data Files (EDF files) that can take advantage of all of Data Viewer's visualization and analysis features. The webinar will discuss how to utilize Data Viewer's Messaging Protocol by sending simple messages to the EDF to convey to Data Viewer: 00:00 - Overview of Data Viewer and EyeLink API 10:04 - Messing Protocol Overview 12:16 - Display Size and Start Trial Messages 15:42 - Trial Event Messages (To Mark Critical Event Onset) 18:20 - Image Load and Video Frame Messages (Integrate Images and Videos into Data Viewer) 23:35 - Drawing Simple Shape Messages 29:05 - Target Position Messages (Useful in Smooth Pursuit Studies for Dynamic Stimuli) 34:39 - Interest Area Messages (To Mark Critical Parts of Stimuli for Data Analysis) 41:19 - Trial Variables Messages (Store Independent / Condition Variables and Dependent Behavioral Variables) 44:24 - Trial Offset Message 45:06 - Message Offset Values (Useful for Messages that Cannot be Sent at the Time of an Event) All of these messages can be sent with msec precision either by sending them in a manner synced with experimental events or by including timing information (i.e., temporal offset information) in the message itself to align the message with the event. Having some basic experience of working with Data Viewer may help in understanding the topics discussed, but it is not required.
