Digraphs! Do your children know what sounds they make?
Following on from last week's video where Monique explained the SOUNDS that the letters in our alphabet make, today she explains what digraphs are and what sounds they make and why knowing the letter NAMES are not relevant here.
English literacy is complicated (to say the least!), and many children struggle with learning all the different sounds that our letters make. Our alphabet has only 26 letters, but individually and in various combinations, they create a total of 44 sounds that we use in our language, so this can be a challenge for many kids learning to read and spell.
