What Could Go Wrong ?

A sarcastic, satirical ditty about a litany of current events with choruses which identify various aspects of what is usually called "American Exceptionalism." The cover picture is derived from a small bust I made and which I called "Qatman," an invented, Qat chewing Yemeni superhero. Lyrics: What Could Go Wrong? Going to war Flying by wire Trusting his guts Setting the fire Dire, ominous premonitions Phony Hollywood intuitions All come to rotten fruition We’re so damned strong! What could possibly go wrong? No patience to wait Failing to concentrate Drawing too early Not shooting strait Stumbling at the starting gate “I strongly feel” our doom is sealed Quickly, now, the truth congeals We’re so damned fast! What could possibly take us down at last? Burning oil derricks Angry foreign clerics Really all a train wreck Past time for a gut check Time to hit the deck A pathological focus on hate Opens up early the pearly gates We’re so damned full of pride! How could we ever be denied? Great leader gone off the rails Allies assailed Protesters jailed When prophecy failed He fell for wicked fairy tales To our great leader “all hail” The other generals have bailed We’re so damned full of fire! What could possibly go haywire? Failing nation Battle stations! International regulations Will require reparations Failed in critical relations Constitutional disintegration Not open to interpretation We are so damned rich What could have landed us in this ditch We were led astray We ran the maze What a craze! Found crime doesn’t pay Feel the rage, then turn the page Try to learn to act your age Please don’t tell me that you’ll pray We’re so damned pious How could anyone defy us? Unpleasant Reflections Failed strategy dissections Brutal political Vivisection Long overdue course corrections War takes on a new complexion Just in time for new elections Offering even worse directions! We’re so damned wise! What could have blinded our eyes?
