What is Network Centralization? [Graph Theory Tutorial]

What is Network Centralization? This video will define network centralization and provide examples of how to calculate it. Network centralization is a concept from network theory that attempts to quantify the degree to which a network is 'centralized.' For example, a network of friends where everyone knows everyone else is decentralized, meaning influence is not concentrated in the hands of one person, but a friend group where one person knows everybody and everyone else is mostly a stranger to each other would be very centralized, that is, the power and influence is concentrated in the hands of a single person. Network centralization has many applications because networks are everywhere in the world. We can model friend groups, social media sites, the internet itself, and transportation infrastructure as a network, and the question of how centralized or decentralized these real-world-networks are can give us a new and valuable perspective on those systems.
