What is statistics? | StatsExamples
This video explains statistics and what it is. Think of it as a introduction to statistics. It describes the two major types of statistics: descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Descriptive statstics is using data to summarize and describe the properties of a data set. Usually, this is data from a sample used to make estimations about the likely values for a population. Inferential statstics is using the data from the sample to answer questions about the population. Questions can incldue whether a population has a specific average value or if two populations have the same average value. Questions can also compare variatoin, proportions, and whether two variables seem to exhibit a non-random pattern or assoaiation. Finally, a very brief description of Bayesian statistics, likelihood and the Akaike information criterion are covered. If you've ever been confused by what makes statistics and math different, this video answers the question: what is statistics?
