Ans: The pulling force translated within a string, rope or cable that produces an acceleration "a" in mass "m" is known as Tension Force. Tension force is also know as the force of the rope , string or cable. Remember that tension force is always translated within the rope or string and applied by the string or rope. Tension force always act as a pulling force; it can't act as a pushing force. For Example, a mass "m" is suspended by a rope. Now there are two forces acting on this mass "m". The force of gravity is acting in downward direction on mass"m" .
