What We Can Learn from Doing a Color Study
Willie is one of our teachers at RSA — and an accomplished artist in his own right. When he brought in a painting he was working on, we did what we do best: pulled out a canvas and worked through it together. Using an 8x16 canvas board in acrylics, we built a color study from scratch — mixing, problem-solving, and talking through color relationships in real time. Willie asked great questions, pushed back when he saw things differently, and we had more than a few laughs along the way. Bloopers included. This one's less of a formal tutorial and more of an honest conversation between two artists on the same team. If you've ever wanted to hear how painters actually think through a color problem together — this is that. What comes up in this video: — How to approach a color study before committing to a full painting — Mixing decisions in acrylics on a small 8x16 format — How color relationships shift when you're solving for someone else's vision — Proof that even experienced artists benefit from a second set of eyes Big thanks to Willie for being a great sport and making this one genuinely fun to film. 🎨 RSA offers classes, workshops, and private lessons for all levels in Agoura Hills, CA. 📌 Upcoming workshops: https://raminfardart.com/drawing-painting-workshops-agoura-hills/ 📸 Instagrams: RSA: https://www.instagram.com/raminfard_school_of_arts/ Willie: https://www.instagram.com/willieesimsart/ ___________________________________________________________ #AcrylicPainting #ColorStudy #ColorMixing #BeachPainting #AcrylicColorMixing #PaintingTutorial #SeascapePainting #LandscapePainting #BeachArt #OceanPainting #ArtistConversation #PainterLife #ArtEducation #LearnToPaint #PaintingProcess #ArtClass #ArtWorkshop #AgouraHills #RSA #RaminfardSchoolOfArts #AcrylicArt #PleinAirPainting #ColorTheory #ArtistsOfYouTube #StudioLife
