What Went Wrong Before Recovery?
One of the most common patterns I see in older patients is pain that becomes severe enough to take mobility away entirely. A fall, a fracture, an episode of sudden back or leg pain, and within weeks, life starts shrinking. Walking becomes limited. Sleep becomes broken. In some cases, patients end up confined to a wheelchair, not because their body cannot recover, but because the pain has been left unaddressed for too long. What often gets missed is that physiotherapy has a sequence. When pain is at a high intensity, the body cannot tolerate the movement rehab requires. The pain has to be calmed first. Once that happens, recovery follows much faster than people expect. There are signs that should never be ignored. Severe pain. Pain that travels down the leg or arm. Pain intense enough to limit basic movement or sleep. These are signals that the system needs proper attention before the loss of function becomes harder to reverse.
