WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT 2020!
Big question? Well for me 2020 was good, I got a opportunity to lock down to my safe place and got a lot of things done. I re-organised my workshop and I love it! Now when my tool-area and command center is starting to look pretty ready (for now) It's time to start a new area. I still find a lot of things to organize and place into the tool area, going thru my stuff. Tool area video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgV88eTENhI&t So welding area it is. I've been making plans by using CAD. Not the Computer-Aided Design one but a Cigarette And Drink type of design lol I have five areas in my plan. Tool-area, welding-area, machining-area, fabricating/car-area and a man-cave area. It's hard to fit everything in my workshop but I have some kind of plan. This use to be a place for my lathe. It's a small area under the mezzanine. About 2 x 3 m. I have a 1 x 2 m welding table with casters under it. I planned that it could be pushed in to the welding area when I'm not welding. There's a good place for fume extraction arm near. I also think that all the gas bottles should be near to exit. If there's a fire or something bad happens it's easier to carry all the bottles outside. I mainly tig-weld inside to avoid the sparks. Wintertime I weld inside with all equipment, stick, mig and tig. I bought my Fumex RZX extraction arm few years ago. It's great for welding and sanding. It's also nice for machining purposes. There's a lot of smoke when cutting with oil. I bought it in a bundle with other tools and it was cheap. Those are very expensive new. I think it's made in Sweden. The extraction fan is very quiet, so it's nice to have a led indicator on it when it's running, so I remember to shut it off after use. There is a 12volt work light on the arm too, that's very handy for welding. I have three old metal shelves, that my neighbor gave to me years ago. My neighbor is the best :D I had these assembled in my old workshop. There's a lot of grease and dirt, so I cleaned them. Hot water and soap does the trick. One shelf is going to the welding area and two to the machining area. There was some surface rust on the parts so I decided to paint it. I sanded down surfaces with 180 grit. I think these was powder coated originally. I used a basic foam roller. I'm lazy for cleaning the spray gun. This paint is so called "shipping container paint". It's a 1K paint but you can add little hardener for harder surface finish. Paint dries quickly so I had to be fast for even finish. It's a flat finish so it's pretty forgiving to paint. I picked the color pretty close to original. I had two pegboards left for the welding area. I placed the big one between shelves because there is not enough wall space to place it anywhere else. Good place for clamps and other accessories. I found a good place for vice grips too. There's also a place for my new welding rod tubes on the shelf. The fire extinguishers are now serviced and I placed them for easy access near the door. I also added some safety signs to my door for visitors. Also a reminder for myself to wear safety glasses and check the gas bottles when I close the workshop door. Thanks for tuning in to my workshop! Please subscribe and leave a like and a comment! Thanks and Cheers! T-handle
