I wrote this song because something has always troubled my heart.
When wars are spoken about by leaders or reported in the news, the language often becomes numbers, casualties, losses, targets, gains. Statistics. Strategy. Outcomes.
But war is never numbers.
Every number was a human being.
Someone who laughed at a kitchen table.
Someone who carried hopes, fears, and dreams.
Someone deeply loved, and deeply missed.
And for every life lost, there is a mother who grieves, a child who waits, a family forever changed.
This song is simply a reminder of that truth:
that behind every statistic is a face,
behind every total is a story,
and behind every war are countless broken hearts.
