When you're too ambitious...

Ambition in filmmaking is good and probably necessary but it can go wrong. Just how ambitious should a filmmaker be? When filming in Greece, I vividly remember second-guessing every single shot. It wasn’t just about if the shot looked good, but did it make ME look good? Ancient Greek heroes wanted their names to echo through the ages. But you have to be careful, this pursuit of glory is corrupting when it becomes about self-aggrandizement and not about producing something of permanence. I was suffering from this type of ambition and it made failure painful because it was personal. In this video, I cover why it hurts, why it's bad and what to do differently.
