Where I Stand
I watched the blueprints scatter in the hall While you were busy building up a wall I told you I was never here to hold the lead Or tell you how to act or what you need I wasn't looking for a puppet on a string Just someone who could handle what we'd bring You have the right to live your life out loud But every choice you make just draws a cloud I showed you every crack within my heart And told you where the healing had to start But you just walked where I said not to tread Ignoring every single word I said It stops being a mistake and starts being who you are When you keep on driving while I'm reaching for the star I've told you what is sacred, what makes me feel unsafe But you just leave me standing in this cold and hollow space I'm not here to control you, I just wanted us to grow But your actions tell me everything I need to know I drew the lines out clearly in the sand I thought that you were brave enough to stand Beside me when the winter started moving in But you just let the coldest shadows win It's not about the things you forgot to do It's about the version that I see of you You cross the boundary and you look away Like there is nothing left for us to say A pattern isn't just a slip or a fall It's the architecture standing ten feet tall I can't keep building on a sinking floor I can't keep waiting by an open door It stops being a mistake and starts being who you are When you keep on driving while I'm reaching for the star I've told you what is sacred, what makes me feel unsafe But you just leave me standing in this cold and hollow space I'm not here to control you, I just wanted us to grow But your actions tell me everything I need to know I'm not your judge, I'm just the one who's leaving Done with the bargaining and done with the grieving You chose your path and you chose it alone Now I'm reclaiming a life of my own I cannot love someone who won't stay on my side There's nowhere left for all this hurt to hide I'm moving on from the ghost of who you were Before the lines between us became a blur
