White Slavery

This girl got on this app with her whole chest and claimed a Black man created the first slave in America. Just a couple things... 1.) All the slaves in the America were created by White government officials. 2.) The first documented slave in the British colonies was John Punch. There were many, many Black slaves in the Americas before that; Spanish Florida in particular. But also, of the first Black people to arrive in 1619, while we don't know who was indentured and who was enslaved, historians pretty much universally agree that there were lifetime slaves in 1619 and that there were absolutely lifetime Black slaves before 1640 3.) The enormous need for slaves in British North America took some time to take off, because the British didn't know how to plant largely indigenous cash crops at scale when they first got here. 4.) About half of the Europeans in the early colonies were indentured servants. Very few would ever be subject to lifetime slavery. America has White slaves like the U.S. has Black Presidents. 5.) The early colonies were not strictly stratified by race. John Punch even married a White woman, legally. Racial apartheid had to be invented and then refined over centuries as White planters became increasingly dependent on - and terrified of - an overwhelmingly Black enslaved labor force. This formalized, codified racism is the only invention they refuse to take credit for. 6.)
