There's such a fascination around them, isn't there? A game you read about, watched trailers on, had anticipation for, only to never see the light of day. What's left is feeling of great disappointment and a feeling of "what if". For this video, I'm going to cover a cancelled game that's a bit of a unique case. That being Alice: Asylum. Instead of a game far into development before cancellation, Alice: Asylum never even entered development. Its publisher EA decided to pass on the project. But series creator American McGee and his team put together a crowdfunded design bible to pitch to EA. One that lays out how the game would play, and how the story would unfold. When I made my video on the American McGee Alice series back in 2022, the Alice: Asylum project was still up in the air. The announcement of the cancellation was in the spring of 2023. It's something I wanted to revisit and go into more detail of what could've been. This video is going to be a bit different than what I usually do. This will be an image-heavy video going through the design bible. The design bible for Alice: Asylum is well worth a read and as you'll see, some stunning artwork. Its staggering how much love and care emit from these pages, only for EA to pass on it.
