The crusades were a miraculous combined effort of multiple Christian nations throughout Europe to unify and take back the Holy Land from their Muslim adversaries. A spectacular feat, given how much Europe’s nations were usually at war with each other, the crusades should, in theory, have been a mighty display of passion and strength.
