Why Does God Allow Suffering
God allows suffering for several reasons, many of which are rooted in biblical principles: Human Free Will: God gave humans the freedom to choose (Deuteronomy 30:19). Much suffering results from human choices, not God's will (James 1:13-15). A Fallen World: Suffering entered the world due to sin, beginning with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:16-19; Romans 5:12). The current world is under a curse, leading to pain and death. Testing and Growth: Trials can refine character and build faith (James 1:2-4; Romans 5:3-5; 1 Peter 1:6-7). God uses suffering to shape believers for His purpose. Jesus Also Suffered: Even God’s Son suffered, showing that suffering is not a sign of God’s absence or disapproval (Hebrews 5:8; Isaiah 53:3-5). Hope of Future Restoration: God promises to end suffering in His future Kingdom (Revelation 21:4; Romans 8:18). Present suffering is temporary compared to the glory to come. In summary, God permits suffering for a time to allow free will, develop godly character, and fulfill His redemptive plan—but He promises a future where suffering will be no more.
