Everyone knows that if you want to build a sandcastle you have to use wet sand. Wet sand sticks together and dry sand doesn't. But what makes wet sand so sticky? It's got to do with something called surface tension. Water forms liquid bridges between grains of sand and pulls them together through surface tension. This is what stops sandcastles from crumbling.
