Why rote-learning doesn't work? | Rote learning vs conceptual learning
In India, rote-learning is widely prevalent. Is rote-learning good? Is it useful? In this video, the founder of the Levelfield School, Arghya Banerjee, talks about what exactly is rote-learning and why it is ineffective in preparing students for life and also for exams. Levelfield follows a skill-based approach rather than rote learning, and it has been phenomenally successful: Levelfield's students median SAT score is 1550, and more than half of its last graduating batch got into IIM Indore and IIM Ranchi's IPM programs. In fact, in IPMAT Indore, five Levelfield students ranked among top-50, including AIR-1 and AIR-3. In the JIPMAT exam conducted by IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya, 6 Levelfield students were in top-50, including AIR-5 and AIR-8. In Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge A Levels, 65%-70% of Levelfield's grades are A or A*, compared to 28% worldwide. Why is it that rote-learning can never produce top rankers?
