In this video, I show you how to create a professional portrait using minimal gear—and without using a light stand. Instead, I mount my light directly to a tree using the Matthews Location Baby Pin bracket, proving that you can take epic photos anywhere if you understand light and your environment.
You'll see the full setup, including how I mounted the light, balanced ambient exposure with flash, and used soft directional lighting to make the subject stand out. I also explain why I chose an octabox, how to use natural sunlight as a hair light, and how to create dramatic separation between your subject and the background.
This is all about working smarter, traveling lighter, and thinking creatively on location.
If you’ve ever wanted to simplify your lighting setup without sacrificing quality, this video is for you.
