Will an elevator automatic recall work when there is a fire?

Engineers may want to re-think how they are designing or modifying a conventional fire alarm for an elevator modernization. In this short video Lonergan Engineering bench tested a fire alarm scenario on a conventional fire alarm system, using a relay base 2 wire smoke detector on the existing conventional zone. The question is; if the lobby smoke detector (relay base) is the subsequent alarm on the zone of alarm, will the relay base operate to recall the elevator? Not in this arrangement, how can there be a subsequent alarm on a conventional zone, the circuit just got short circuited! What that means is the elevator keeps running even when the lobby is on fire and you maybe sending your passengers out to a trap. An alternate design approach is necessary using a 4 wire base with an extra DC feed. Or, separating these lobby smokes to their own zones, and some panel programming.
