Winchester Super X Model 1

Next up is the Winchester Super X Model 1 which was introduced by Winchester in 1974 as an attempt to return to the old "pre 1963" heyday of Winchester by using the older methods of manufacturing to produce high quality parts milled from solid steel stock using no plastic, no impressed checkering, and no cut corners. Unfortunately, Remington did much the same with the insanely popular Remington Model 1100 back then for a much cheaper price and since Winchester was losing money on each Super X already, they were doomed from the start for financial reasons. Such a shame as it really was a quality build....however..... .......it was certainly not without its "issues"....notably the buffer......that's right, an annoying brittle shattering buffer. If replaced regularly as needed all would be well but if it was neglected, as mine was, receiver battering creates a condition where a replacement buffer cannot be fitted because of the damage.
