I want to reiterate something, this is in no way the one way to obtain a back pressure reading. In fact, I would recommend against drilling into a 200+ dollar exhaust manifold for a back pressure reading. Why? DSM's (and many other vehicles) are equipped with an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve. Since it recirculates exhaust gas and that is what we are trying to measure, it makes for a great candidate. Add to this that you can purchase an EGR block off plate for 10 bucks and you have a cheap alternative that is easily reversible. Of course, if you already have an EGT gauge installed, you can pull out the probe and wire in a MAP sensor to get your reading. With that being said....... It was now time to wire in a MAP sensor to Log our Exhaust backpressre using the holes that were drilled during the diagnosing a lean condition series. This install is detailed using DSMlink on a 1990 Eagle Talon utilizing its EGR temp ECU input. Some wire colors may vary depending on year models and your selected ECU input. Regardless of you year, make, model, input choice, or ECU you will need a 5v feed, a ground wire and a signal wire to properly install a MAP sensor. This was suppose to be a pretty simple and straight forward install (considering our future prep work) but as you will see, nothing goes as planned.
