You can even reverse the gear set to change the flow from clockwise to counterclockwise and vice versa with no break-in requirements afterwards. Here’s how. Start with a clean work area and also thoroughly clean the exterior of the pump to prevent particles that could damage your pump from getting inside. Loosen and remove the four bolts. Lay the pump on the work table with the mounting flange facing upward. Apply some grease to the shaft to prevent damaging the shaft seal. Remove the flange and make sure the body seal is properly seated. Mark the position of the bushing and thrust plate relative to the body like this. Remove the bushing and thrust plate and the driving gear…being careful to avoid driven gear axial shifts. Pull the driven gear from its housing, taking care to avoid rear cover axial shifts. Relocate the driven gear to the spot previously occupied by the driving gear. Now, relocate the driving gear to the spot previously occupied by the driven gear. Replace the bushing and thrust plate, being careful to align the marks. Also note the surface with the seal should be visible and facing you, and the seal and its protection are in their proper locations. Clean the body and mounting flange refaced surfaces. Verify the two gears are located in the body. Rotate the mounting flange 180 degrees from its original position and slide it into place. Replace the bolts and tighten crosswise evenly to the appropriate torque value, in this case 30 ft.-lbs. Check that the shaft rotates freely.
