One of the greatest advancements with workplace safety has been the introduction of Workers' Right. They enable people to know about the hazards, to participate in the creation and use of the safety systems and to refuse work they deem is unsafe. The rights though come with a hierarchy. How can you refuse unsafe work if you do not know what the hazard is and how can you know about a hazard if you do not have the experience to understand the risk? And how can you participate in safety if you do not believe in it? This is why using our workers' rights needs to be deliberate and meaningful. So that we grow in our jobs, become experienced to understand the hazards, and confident in refusing unsafe work.
