World TB Day
Observed every year on 24 March, World Tuberculosis Day is a global reminder of the ongoing fight against tuberculosis and the need to step up awareness and action. This year’s theme, “Yes! We can end TB!”, highlights that with commitment, timely diagnosis, and complete treatment, ending TB is within reach. According to the World Health Organization, tuberculosis continues to have a major global impact. Around 10.8 million people fell ill with TB in 2023, and about 1.23 million people died from the disease in 2024, making it one of the leading infectious killers worldwide. This special programme features Dr. Subedy, Chief Medical Officer at Gidagom Hospital, who explains how TB spreads, its symptoms, and why strict adherence to treatment is critical. Missing doses or stopping medication early can lead to drug-resistant TB, making the disease harder and longer to treat. This programme reinforces a simple but life-saving message: early detection, proper care, and completing the full course of medication on time are key to stopping TB and protecting communities.
