Worth
What is a child worth? This short documentary explores the lived experiences of young people with Special Educational Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and what happens when those needs are truly understood. Created in collaboration between Changing Lives SEN School and the Independent Schools Association (ISA), this film challenges common misconceptions around alternative and specialist education. Through the voices of students, parents and staff, it reveals the profound impact that the right environment, support and relationships can have on a child’s life. For many of these young people, mainstream education wasn’t failing because of a lack of ability, but because the environment didn’t meet their needs. Here, we see what becomes possible when it does. This film is not an argument against reform, it is a call to ensure that reform protects what works, and recognises the value of specialist provision in helping vulnerable young people thrive.
