Ya Devi Sarva Bhuteshu— I bow to you, Great Goddess, Mother of us all. Who is found as peace & rest in every being. I sang this at the end of a recent restorative yoga class that I taught, a class centered around the gifts that come from life when we take time to truly experience it rather than hustle through it. Slowing down is so punk in a world that glorifies hustle, money, and flash, isn’t it? Taking time to honor the peace & rest that is your birthright is not self-indulgence, as Audre Lorde said, but political warfare. Capitalism keeps us thinking that we are not enough so we need to work more so that we can buy more. This is a time when we need to care for ourselves so that we are to be better able to help each other. You are worthy of the time it takes to slow down. It is my privilege to share slow, calming music to help people come back to themselves through rest. I hope that you will join me to rest & receive on May 15th at Community Yoga in Greenfield, MA.
