This week’s track from my 1999 debut album The Way I Feel is called “Yo! Mr. Saxman.”
It’s the only song on the album without live drums — just a loop. But what makes it really special is the sample at the top: that’s my Grandma Thomas saying the title line from the breakfast table one morning.
All the other instruments (besides sax) were played by my late, great music mentor Bobby Lanz, who brought so much life to these early recordings.
