The Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir performed their annual Spring Concert at St. Michael Catholic Church in Kaiserslautern-Erzhütten, Germany on 10 May 2026. Director: Eric Weddle Song: Zigeunerleben Composer: Robert Schumann The colorful, poetic image of the so-called “gypsy” (the common external definition of Sinti and Roma at the time) was heavily influenced by clichés typical of the time and served in many works as the embodiment of Romantic longings such as freedom, closeness to nature, and spontaneity, even wildness. In this positive sense, we would like our performance to be understood as a document of its time. It is in no way our intention to distract from the crimes committed against Roma and Sinti under National Socialism or to discriminate against this population group in any way. Mai 2026 sein jährliches Frühlingskonzert in der katholischen Kirche St. Michael in Kaiserslautern-Erzhütten auf. Dirigent: Eric Weddle Lied: Zigeunerleben Komponist: Robert Schumann Das farbige, poetische, von zeittypischen Klischeebildern stark durchsetzte Bild vom sog. „Zigeuner“, so die damals gängige Fremd-Definition für Sinti und Roma, diente in der damaligen Zeit in vielen Werken als Verkörperung der romantischen Sehnsüchte wie Freiheit, Naturverbundenheit und Ungezwungenheit, ja Wildheit. In diesem positiven Sinne möchten wir unseren Liedbeitrag als Zeitdokument verstanden wissen. In keiner Weise ist es unsere Absicht, von den im Nationalsozialismus begangenen Verbrechen an Roma und Sinti abzulenken oder diese Bevölkerungsgruppe in irgendeiner Weise zu diskriminieren.
