Zvikomborero (Cover)

Here is my take on “Zvikomborero” by Comrade Chinx. This song takes me straight back to a typical Thursday evening... complete with the smell and sight of that sadza, beef and green veggies meal. Ezomgido/Mvengemvenge was a local music video show and it was easily one of the highlights of my week. This song was a regular on the show and my favorite version was the live performance where Cde Chinx was backed by a star studded Ilanga band which featured the likes of a young Andy Brown, Adam Chisvo, Busi Ncube, Keith Farquharson and Gibson Nyoni (who I later played with in Thomas Mapfumo’s band 😳). The sight of Zimbabweans of all colors and backgrounds dancing to this song in the video at the Harare Gardens just brings a smile to my face! The song calls upon citizens of a ‘new’ Zimbabwe to unite and adopt virtues like loving each other, learning and understanding each other, education and always looking out for one another. It discourages hard headedness, corruption, laziness and speaking ill of each other. The singer says Zvikomborero (blessings/good things) come from all the good virtues and not from all the things he discourages. I really like the simple and repetitive bass line.
