Everyone rushed to the beach, and that’s how the first part of the day looked. Later, I headed to the city centre to capture a different side of the day. When visiting Rio’s beaches, go early to enjoy the best spots and always keep an eye on your belongings, as petty theft can happen. Stick to well-frequented areas like Copacabana or Ipanema, especially on weekends, and avoid bringing valuables. The weather can be intense, so wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and don’t underestimate the sun even on cloudy days. In the city, use registered taxis or ride apps to get around, and at night, stay in busy, well-lit areas. With a bit of care, you’ll enjoy Rio’s vibrant energy safely. Selarón Steps: A colorful staircase in Santa Teresa, covered with thousands of vibrant tiles collected from around the world by artist Jorge Selarón, making it one of Rio’s most iconic landmarks. Lapa Arches: The grand white aqueduct built in the 18th century, now a symbol of Lapa, especially striking when lit up at night. Lapa Tram: The historic yellow tram that runs over the Lapa Arches, offering a charming ride up into the bohemian Santa Teresa neighborhood.
