Take me back to 2016 ~~~~~~~ We had cheap phones and cracked screens Late nights on loading screens Talking trash through broken mics Like we owned the whole damn scene Somebody’s room became our world Cables running on the floor One more match, then one more match Till the sun came through the door We were young and kind of stupid But the kind you can’t replace Every laugh felt like a secret Time would never dare to take We didn’t know that life was moving We didn’t know the clock could win We were just kids with open hearts Living like the kings of 2016 Take me back to 2016 When the nights were loud and we were free When the world was small And my friends were everything to me We were falling, laughing, barely breathing Too many stories we forgot to keep But I’d give anything to feel again The way we felt in 2016 We took that trip with no real plan No destination, only laughs Singing songs we barely knew Driving way too fast Sleeping over, sharing blankets Floorboards colder than our pride Someone laughing in the corner Someone dreaming by my side We were innocent and reckless We were careless, we were true Never thought the best days happen Before you know they’re leaving you We didn’t know that we were changing We didn’t know the end begins When everybody swears forever In the golden light of 2016 Take me back to 2016 When the nights were loud and we were free When the world was small And my friends were everything to me We were falling, laughing, barely breathing Too many stories we forgot to keep But I’d give anything to feel again The way we felt in 2016 Now everybody’s somewhere different Different jobs and different towns Some of us became the people We used to joke about And I don’t hate the way we grew up I just miss the way it felt When the whole world fit inside a room And we had nothing figured out Take me back to 2016 When the nights were loud and we were free When the world was small And my friends were everything to me We were falling, laughing, barely breathing Too many stories we forgot to keep But I’d give anything to feel again The way we felt in 2016 Take me back to 2016 Before life pulled us out of reach It will never be the same again But it still means everything to me One more game before the morning One more laugh before we leave I didn’t know I had the best days Back in 2016 ~~~
