Sorry if there are any visual glitches. Please refer to the GIF in https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/Regular_257-gon_Using_Carlyle_Circle.gif if you are confused. Also credits to https://kenbrakke.com/RulerAndCompass/257-gon.m.txt for the formulas of the points. Numbers are shown in case you want to replicate this digitally. To construct a 257-gon, you need: 500 arcs 24 Carlyle circles 59 lines (excluding 257 sides of polygon) 49 points (excluding points of the finished polygon) 257-gons are the second largest constructible polygons with a prime number of sides, and probably the largest prime side polygon that is practical to construct. This is because the largest constructible polygon, the 65537-gon, would take hundreds of hours to construct if it were put it in video form. A Carlyle circle is a circle that touches the point 0,1. It mimics a quadratic function as it can be used to find the zeroes of a quadratic equation. Carlyle circles is the primary method used to construct this polygon.
