2v1 Wave Attack

New: 2v1 Wave Attack Created via @SportSessionPlanner Organisation • Area: 25x15 • Central 5-yard channel (ball supply zone) • Two identical areas running side by side (mirrored practice) • 14 players including 2 GKs • 6v6 outfield: ⇢ Each team = 2 attackers, 4 defenders • 5 balls per side placed in central channel Set up: • Attackers start on edge of area • Defenders start outside the area, ready to enter Objective Attackers: ⇢ Exploit overload quickly, combine or eliminate defender, and finish. Defenders: ⇢ Delay, recover, and protect the goal under numerical disadvantage. Practice: • Two attackers (one per side) enter central channel and collect a ball. • As the ball is taken, one defender enters to create a 2v1. • Attack must be immediate. No delay allowed. Once finished: • Attackers collect next ball • New defender enters • Each pair completes 5 attacks against different defenders. • Rotate roles. • Progression 1: Second Defender Recovery ⇢ Allow a second defender to enter after a 2–3 second delay. ⇢ Now attackers must decide: ⇢ Finish early or combine under pressure Progression 2: Increased Defensive Pressure ⇢ Add a third recovering defender. Turns it into: ⇢ 2v1 → 2v2 → 2v3 within seconds This tests: • Timing of action • Decision speed • Awareness of collapsing space Progression 3: Variable Overloads Change ratios: • 3v2 • 2v2 • 3v3 Do not keep it fixed. Gamified Scoring; ◍ 1 point for a goal ◍ Bonus for scoring within 5 seconds ◍ Defender earns point for forcing turnover or delaying beyond time limit or scoring. ◍ Track attacker vs defender scores over rounds. Teaching the “Why” Read the Picture ➝ “Where is the free player?” ➝ “When does the defender commit?” Purpose in the Action ➝ “Are you fixing the defender… or avoiding them?” ➝ The first attacker must attract pressure, not escape it immediately.
