Testing spinal segments T8, T9, T10 (umbilicus), T11 and T12. An absent response signifies a corticospinal tract lesion above the corresponding spinal segment. it may also indicate Multiple sclerosis, lat stages of Motor neuron disease, Brown-Séquard syndrome and Arnold-Chiari malformation of the brain. An absent abdominal reflex may also be found in the obese, with previous abdominal operations, in the very old and those who had multiple pregnancies.
