Abstract Masterpiece

_*Abstract Masterpiece*_ Produced for JCCC course FMS-200 taught by Ayah Abdul-Rauf October 13, 2023 *Context* We (the students) each had a week to make a soundscape (3-6 minute long culmination of many different sounds i.e. footsteps, rain, etc. with no discernible talking or music allowed). After that, we trade soundscapes with a random classmate and we have to make a video only using that sound. This is the video I made with one of my classmate's soundscapes. *Artist Statement* People tend to overlook things and never see the bigger picture. I often find irony in “simplistic” art works being called “innovative” and “ingenious” when really, it’s just a single stroke of red paint on a canvas. I don’t claim to be an art fanatic, but what I do know is that there’s a difference between details and interpretation. When making art, it is important to not be so absorbed in making the work so detailed it has branches at a microscopic level, but it is also important to not be so carefree. I filmed and produced this project completely by myself (excluding the soundscape, of course), which meant I had to get creative with how I filmed specific shots. While this caused less stress for asking others who did not know much about film to help, it also caused hurdles for me. For example, I could not make much movement-based shots and had to station the camera upon a tripod for most shots. Despite this, I believe I’ve constructed a satisfactory satirical story poking fun at the overcomplication of simplicity.
