Here is a quick & dirty tutorial for adding courses to Lute tab in Musescore.
Add a lute to your score (tab)
right click a measure
select 'Part Properties'
Edit String Data (on the bottom of the pop-up window)
Follow the desired buttons
Hit 'APPLY' - very important step.
Enjoy your new strings
