Sharing a unique observation pertaining to substances heated in a microwave. Observations and reactions are welcome in the comments section. Superheating (or boiling retardation) occurs because surface tension facilitates retention of higher pressure in the bubbles than the maximum vapour pressure under those conditions. So, as the bubbles coalesce, they result in sudden expansion.
