Advanced 3D Character Breakdown - Pimble
Introducing PIMBLE — the main character of my upcoming short film. Pimble is the youngest of three troll brothers, and the one who never quite fits in with the world he was born into. While his brothers Grumble and Snort move through life with brute strength and certainty, Pimble is quieter and observant. He doesn’t really match the expectations placed on him, either by his family or by what a troll is “supposed” to be. Key traits: - Gentle and empathetic - Quiet and introspective - Deep connection to nature Pimble’s journey is about learning that doing the right thing sometimes means standing alone — and that courage doesn’t always look like strength. For texturing I’ve been recently using the UcuPaint addon in Blender — a free layer-based painting tool, sorta similar to Painter, but much more lightweight. It lets me paint directly in the viewport with layers, masks, blending and basic material controls, and then bake everything out to final textures when I’m done. It’s become a really efficient way to texture models in Blender imo. 🔸 Get Character Creator 5 (affiliate): https://tiedtke.short.gy/cc5 🔸 Get iClone 8 (affiliate): https://tiedtke.short.gy/iclone The groom accessories was also one of the bigger challenges for me. In Unreal Engine 5.7 there are new groom directability tools, and I used that workflow with skeletal binding to keep everything working with physics. The hair, braids, and small accessories didn’t behave well together in simulation, so I solved it by driving everything through the skeleton instead — keeping both strand detail and rigid elements consistent and aligned during physics simulation. #UnrealEngine #Shortfilm #Filmmaking #3Danimation #3Dcharacter #Previs #CharacterCreator #UnrealTechArtist #Pipeline #CFX Hey! Growing up, my brothers and I spent a lot of time building intricate LEGO worlds and creating stop-motion films using our dad's DV camcorder. It wasn’t anything special at the time, just a way to pass the hours, but looking back, I can see how that playful experimentation set the stage for my interest in storytelling and animation. My older brother’s interest in creative work also had a big influence on me. Watching him get into the arts made me want to try my hand at it too, even though I wasn’t sure exactly where it would lead. So, I took a chance and pursued it, and over time, that childhood curiosity about bringing things to life through animation turned into something I still do every day. It’s a career, yes, but more than that—it’s a way for me to keep telling stories and exploring new ideas, frame by frame.
