I set up an alpha-keto halogenation reaction. In this transformation, I wanted to insert a bromine atom next to a ketone. Into a pressure tube charged with a magnetic stir bar and the ketone, I added the solvent and switched on the stirring. After that, I added catalytic amounts of para-toluenesulfonic acid, and the pale yellow color of the reaction mixture immediately faded. Then, I also added one equivalent of NBS before sealing the tube. With all the reagents in place, I transferred the sealed tube into a preheated oil bath at around 85 C.
