Astro Photography Tool Video User Guide Features - DARV DARV stands for 'Drift Alignment by Robert Vice method'. The essential idea of the method is to make one long exposure while the mount is moved to the East and then back to the West (or in reverse in the southern hemisphere). If the polar alignment is perfect the result will be a flat line, in other cases the track in the image will have the shape of the letter V. So you have to make corrections until the track becomes a single line. DARV can be used on it's own to do polar alignment, making adjustments as required but can be time consuming. Instead I use it to confirm other methods of polar alignment such as PAPS or PHD2 drift alignment are correct.
