Making sure offshore wind turbines are in tip-top operating condition is a hazardous, expensive and labor-intensive operation dreaded by wind developers who foot the bill.
Well, not anymore. Aker Solutions engineers, inspectors and drone pilots have launched a flying-drone, wind-turbine inspection service to banish those risks.
The savings? The new offshore service is expected to offer scaled-up inspections that will cut offshore-wind inspection costs by 90 percent within five years.
The drones fly programmed flight paths informed by machine-learning algorithms and AI.
